What is the OPA microFIT program and how do you particpate?
What Is The microFIT program?Many people have heard of the OPA (Ontario Power Authority) microFIT program, but very few actually understand what the opportunity to participate actually is. If you are a homeowner, farmer or small business owner, or if you manage an institution like a school or place of worship, you have the opportunity to develop a small or “micro” solar, renewable energy generation project.The OPA is encouraging the development of these projects with their Feed-In Tariff or FIT, which will see the owners of these projects being paid a fixed rate, $0.82 cents/kWh, for a guaranteed 20 year contract period. The price being paid for the energy is intended to enable the owners to recover their cost for the system, as well as earning a reasona Scholarships for single moms ble return on their investment. At $0.82 cents/kWh, this is themost lucrative feed in tariff in the world and a good indication of Ontario’s commitment to a cleaner greener future. Now is the time to get involved as future rates areexpected to be reviewedin2011.Over the coming weeks, we will be discussing the many aspects of the micro FIT program, and how you can participate.
